How to check ATL status in Pakistan
Updated Sep 26, 2026 · TaxGuide
The Active Taxpayer List is the FBR record of people and businesses who have filed an income tax return for the relevant year. Banks, property buyers, and withholding agents use it to decide the filer rate.
You can check the same fact in three official ways, plus the weekly copy on this site.
On TaxGuide
Open Check ATL status and enter the 13-digit CNIC or the NTN. Dashes are optional. If the number is in the latest Income Tax file FBR publishes, the page says it is on the list and shows the name on that file.
TaxGuide replaces that file every week. It is not a live IRIS session. A return filed this morning can take until the next FBR file, and then until the next weekly import, to appear here. The number you type is not stored.
On IRIS
The live check is IRIS Online Verifications. Choose Active Taxpayer List (Income Tax), pick CNIC or NTN, enter the number and the date, then complete the captcha. IRIS can show Active, In-Active, or that no record exists. The weekly file only shows whether the number is present.
FBR describes the same channels on its check active taxpayer status page.
By SMS
Send ATL, a space, and the 13-digit CNIC to 9966. For a company or AOP, send ATL and the 7-digit NTN to the same number. For Azad Jammu and Kashmir the keyword is AJKATL.

Filer and non-filer explains why the list changes withholding tax. If you are working from salary, the salary tax calculator uses the published slabs. It does not look up your ATL status for you.
